I am now 3 quarters of the way done with my project and am now realizing that my goal might be out of reach. However, I've still been practicing relentlessly so it’s easy to make a new goal. My new goal is to just have fun in preparation for next golf season. I’ve been so stressed about obtaining this one goal that it has just made golf boring and forced. So if I just use this whole project as a preparation for next golf season it takes stress off of me and lets me have fun whenever I practice.
This week was kind of open for me because I didn’t have a ton of homework every night or any tests. That allowed me to go play 2 times this week and practice for the rest. I played on Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday’s round did not go how I wanted it to. The first 3 holes were good. I went par, birdie, bogey. But I am ok with making bogey on 3 because it is one of the hardest holes on the course. However, the next 3 holes are fairly easy. I went into them even and came out +2. That frustration carried onto hole 7 when I tried to force a birdie and ended up making double bogey. Now I was +4 with 2 to play. I made an easy par on 8 and made a crazy birdie on the last hole. I hit my drive out to the left and took the next shot right over the trap to about 4 feet. I finished +3 which isn’t horrible but it wasn’t good. Thursday was just a solid round with little mistakes. I shot even par with just 1 bogey and 1 birdie. On the weekend I couldn’t play because I went to the mountains again and stayed up there all weekend. But I can’t wait to get back out there next week.

This week something devastating happened to the golf world, daylight savings ending. This means that the days are shorter, relatively speaking. It gets dark sooner in the afternoon and the sun comes up early in the morning. However, most people are working at their job or like me are working at school and like to play and practice golf after a long day. But the end of daylight saving makes that a lot more hard. Now there is not as much time to play and it is getting much colder much sooner.
I knew that the end of daylight savings would happen during this project and I hate that it has to happen in the later end of it. I underestimated how fast it would actually get dark because after school on Monday when I got out for a couple holes it was dark before I could even finish. This meant that when I got home I could be messing around and I would have to get out to the golf course as quickly as I possibly could. Before the end of daylight saving time I would usually come home and eat a snack and knock out a little bit of homework. Now I come home, grab a snack to go and drive to the golf course. Whenever I am done that is when I will do all of my homework. This week was just a lot of practice, I couldn’t really go and play because I was loaded with homework. I also didn’t have the chance to go and play over the weekend because I went to the mountains with my family. We watched an Appalachian State football game and I had a blast. I can’t wait to get out to the course next week and hopefully play some holes instead of just practicing. First week of November! It has gotten a lot colder since the start of the project and I don’t like it. When the weather is warm the grass is green and not yellow, and the ball goes farther in the summer because it can be compressed more than in the winter. However, that is not going to stop me from practicing in preparation for this next high school season.
I still got out there on Monday and Tuesday despite the harsh weather. I only went to the range both days and ended up coming home fairly soon because of homework. However on Wednesday it was amazing weather and too good to pass up. I went and got a quick 9 in before having to come home. I ended up shooting a 36. A solid even par round after not playing for a couple days. However it was shaky. It started off with 2 wild drives that put me at a +1 start, but after those first 2 holes I couldn’t miss with my driver. I hit all the rest of the fairways and greens through the last 7 holes and played them well. I just couldn’t get a putt to fall and just ended up having a decent round that could’ve been very good. This weekend was different from other weekends. I got to go see the University of Alabama and had a blast. Because of this I was not able to practice over the weekend but I got to watch an amazing football game. Alabama played LSU in a close game. The place was sold out with more than 100,000 people and it was crazy. Whenever a big play would happen the place was so loud and you couldn’t even hear yourself. All in all this weekend was very fun and I can’t wait to get back on the course for next week. This week was the last week of October and I am pretty excited with the progress that has been made. This summer I was at my peak performance practicing every single day and playing in multiple tournaments every week. But when you do something like that for so long it’s easy to get a little burnt out. That is exactly what happened to me. After the summer I took a mental and physical break from golf. After thousands and thousands of swings over the summer my back was in bad shape so I was somewhat forced into a break, but I also wanted one. This break lasted most of August and school had started so my mind was on something else. After taking basically a month off it was hard to get back to where I was over the summer but I think I am now very close if not there.
I started the week off after school on Monday. I went to the range and worked on everything I could. My practice consisted of shot shaping with my ions along with putting and chipping. Then I had to get home because it started to get cold and late. On Tuesday I did almost the exact same thing but threw in a little bit of chipping practice along with the other things. After practicing for 2 days in a row I got out to the course on Wednesday and played well. I was hitting the shots I wanted and when I wanted. However I shot 38. Putting was a struggle. Nothing was going in and I 3 putted twice. It’s crazy how good I was putting last week and how horrible it was on Wednesday, I just don’t understand. On Thursday I could only practice because I had to do something with my family. On Friday I took a day off cause my back and arms were getting tired, and the day off felt amazing. Saturday and Sunday I mainly spent time with my family. We went up to the mountains to see my grandparents and cousins and it was very fun I hope to get back out onto the course next week and try to practice as much as I can until the temperatures start getting too cold. Golf has gotten a lot more fun lately. My dad had back surgery back in the summer and he's finally recovering enough to pick the clubs back up. I'm very excited to start playing with him again. He was the one that taught me how to play and he started me at such a young age. He is always pushing me to be the best I can.
I started the week off with playing and practicing golf with my dad. He was very excited to get back out there and hit some. However that excitement didn't last for long, he was very rusty and it was going to take a while for him to get back to where he was but that is okay because I will have fun playing with him. I practiced with my dad for the beginning of the week (Monday and Tuesday) and then on Wednesday I played with a friend and I played well. I didn't even go to the range because it was getting late. So we went straight to the first hole and I was very stiff. The first hole was all over the place but I made a par, and after that hole I felt fine. I birdied holes 2, 5, and 9. On holes 5 and 9 I almost holed out. On 5 I had a 50 yard wedge shot as my approach shot and knocked it to about a foot. On 9 I had a blind shot to the green, I couldn't even see the hole. But when I walked up there I realized I has inches away from hitting one of the best shots of my life. Unfortunately it didn't go in, but I was still happy to play so well. Weather and course conditions this week were absolutely perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better week to get out there and start practicing.
Monday and Tuesday were about identical. I got home from school at a decent time and went straight to the course even though I was loaded with homework. The only time I can really go to the golf course is right after school because now it gets dark and cold earlier than it used to. So when I got there I really worked on dialing in my irons and putting. Putting practice is hands down the most boring thing ever but I have to do it because putting is the most important thing that every golfer does. It's the difference between a good round and a bad round. Instead of just practicing like I did on Monday and Tuesday, I actually got out to play on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday's round was a bit shaky, I was hitting the ball so good but just wasn't finding the right spots. I didn't get to down on myself though. Thursday was a different story. I got out and there and shot a 35 with 3 birdies. I was hitting the flag out every hole and absolutely bombing my drives. However, I did have one drive that cost me 2 shots. I found OB late in the round which hurt really bad. Nonetheless I still shot under par and we will take that any day of the week. I used the long weekend to knock out a lot of school work and be with family and friends. I still got out there when I could but that wasn't much considering everywhere I went. I'm excited about this weeks work and can't wait for next week. This week was not the best week for golf. There was a lot of rain which made playing and practicing very hard. Regardless of the horrible conditions I still had to get to work. I didn't have a lot of schoolwork until Thursday which was good because on Thursday it was pouring rain. I like practicing in the wet conditions though. There's many reasons, one being that not many people like to go whenever it's soaked. Another reason is I just like the way the dirt flies whenever it's wet compared to when it's dry. I'm sure a lot of people would disagree but i've always liked it.
It all started on Monday when I got out there and just hit a couple balls on the range before going and playing. I played decent, but this time I had 2 birdies. This was a big change from the previous times I played where I had none. I had to skip playing on Tuesday because of an award banquet that my sister was in but I still practiced at the range. My hand started feeling very weird towards the end which caused me to have to end my practice early. It was this really weird ticklish feeling every time that my club struck the ground. I didn't really care for it that much thought because the next day it was fine. I could still tell that it was there but it was not nearly as bad as it was on Tuesday. I got back out onto the course on Wednesday and had a pretty good round. I shot a 34 which was really good because of the conditions. My back still isn't fully recovered either, therefore my clubs aren't going the distance they should. Playing when there is a lot of wind makes golf a lot harder, regardless I was super excited to get back on track after everything that has happened. I couldn't play any for the rest of the days this week because of family and other things but I still got out to practice. I can't wait to get back out there again next week. After recovering last week, this week felt a lot better. I got to the range when I could and my back was feeling good. I got a lot more practice in this week and could finally hit my longer clubs. Even though I was hitting my driver and long irons again, I was still keeping my short game sharp. I got to play on Thursday and it was not my best. But for not being able to practice for a while I thought it was pretty good. I shot a 38 with no birdies. Having no birdies was a clear indicator that I haven't been practicing like I should be. As soon as I can get used to hitting my irons again, I think I will be fine. Next week I will push myself until I can see some good results.
After being assigned the genius hour assignment I immediately went to the golf course. My back has been hurting for a while now, if I had to guess it would probably because of practicing and playing golf everyday that I could in the summer. The summer was decent, I am playing better then I have ever played in my life and it shows. My results were very good but they could be better. But I haven't really thought anything of my back hurting, I always thought that with some good sleep I would be fine. I probably should have done something earlier but I would always shake it off whenever I would go to practice or play. After practicing on Monday, my back hurt a lot that night. I still went to practice again on Tuesday and when I was about halfway through hitting a bucket I literally couldn't move because I was in such pain. I left immediately after that and only practiced short game for the rest of the week. On the days when I haven't been practicing I have been stretching my back and taking it easy. This sucks a lot because I was really hoping to get off to a good start. |
